Careers In BPK Night

Careers in BPK 2017 Poster - 8.5 x 11 FinalCareers in BPK is joint-hosted by the BPKSA and BPK Co-op, and this event is traditionally held early in the spring semester. It provides students in the department an opportunity to learn about some of the fields that their degree may lead them to, and hear first-hand from BPK alumni how their degree at SFU helped them realize their career goals. In the past, we’ve had professionals from backgrounds including physiotherapy, medicine, athletic training, ergonomics, kinesiology, and many others.

The event involves a series of informal question-and-answer sessions with professional representatives. Some may prepare a short presentation, then you have the chance to ask them whatever questions you’d like: which classes at SFU they found the most useful along their career path, what job prospects are like in their field, what a typical day at work is like for them, etc.

Before and after these sessions, students have a chance to interact with various exhibitors, both from within SFU and from the greater community. These are often local businesses and other organizations that are relevant to the field, such as fitness centers, athletics stores, and graduate schools. It presents an environment where students can learn more about a given field, or job opportunity, and even have it lead to employment. Students have been hired by exhibitors that they first came in contact with at the career event. Use it to your advantage!

Between breakout sessions, a dinner is served so that students can continue to talk to the exhibitors while they eat.
