Parham attended the meeting and informed us on the following:

-BPK 207 can now be used as a course for an internal transfer for in BIF

-BPK 807 is a new graduate course that undergraduate students who meet          the requirement of a minimum of 90 credits and a CGPA of 3.5 can enroll in

-no exams & assignments, all critiques and presentations

-for HSCI and BPK=18 seats total; has some seats reserved for

undergraduate students

-there was a proposal to introduce change in grading; this will include

making >92% an A+

Departmental meeting

Parham also reported back on the changes currently being made to the honours program

-the changes were mainly made in the courses (particulary BPK 499-12) which was split into 2 different 6 credit courses & in addition, the numbers of the courses were changed

-these changes are as follows:

-there now 3 courses required to complete the honours program: BPK 491-3

(the thesis proposal), BPK 495-6 (the honours research proposal + lab

work), BPK 499-6 (undergraduate thesis reporting; includes presentation &

writing)

-these changes are meant to be good for job prospects as students can develop their research skills better in the courses

Sports Injuries Club

Steven M came up with an idea to create this club for students to learn more about injuries and how to treat them

-students in BPK 241 can practice as a club

-open for everyone and will not be certifying anyone

-the club itself can also have other activities, which include: social events, speakers coming in, journal clubs, attending sporting events together, volunteering for any events related to BPK 241 or athletics

-main members might be BPK 241 students or athletes; but regardless the club wuill be open to any students in any major

-if you have any suggestions on how to make this club appealing, email Loryn (lbohne@sfu.ca) or Steven M (semcgee@sfu.ca)
