Minutes – Dec 1, 2016

Opening:

The meeting of the BPKSA was called to order at 11:30am by Megan in the BPK Graduate Student Lounge.

 

In Attendance:

Megan, Meghan, Jordan, Emily, Joanne, Arash, Brian, Omid, Bader, Brandon, Jaskarn, Aaron, Ran, Alam, Brandon.

 

Open Issues:

 

Careers in BPK (Wed, Jan 18) update

The event will be Keeping same schedule as last year

We have booked the North and South Atrium for this event.

  • The South Atrium is going to have construction possibly still underway during the time of event, and we may be unable to use it.

Lisa is booking rooms for presentations

 

  • Intro Speaker for event:

We will ask BPK Chair Dr. Brooks-Wilson

If she cannot attend we will ask

Richard Ward, Peter Reuben, Jim Carter, or Nadine Wicks

 

  • Labs:

MCPG lab is arranged

Sensory-Motor lab is arranged

 

  • Tables:

9 schools – Ross University (Caribbean), Palmer collage, Life Chiropractic Collage West, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Nursing), Vancouver Collage of Massage Therapy, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, Tomson rivers, U of medicine and health sciences (in Caribbean), University of western states

4 other organizations – Innovative fitness, BCAK, Fortius (most likely), Oztrekk,

4 Possible othersBCIT, Kinteck (co-op students may come). UBC pharmacy. Kwantlen design of apparel.

5 SFU exhibitors – SFU rec, BPK grad, BPK ergonomics, SFU careers services, SFU physio

 

Right now we are fairly full for presenters, but other suggestions include:

Check UBC presenters, and see if any other Canadian universities want to attend both events, especially other universities that have med programs

Pedorthic Association of Canada

Orpus

  • Speakers:

Med students: Manan, Joyce, Ian, Michael (all maybe)

Med professionals: Darleen helping handle – Dr Brotherhood

PT students: Michelle Riley

PT professionals: Darleen helping handle – Satbir, Nicola (possible, Jordan will contact)

Dietitian Professional: Melodie Yong

Dietitian student: Mitra from SFU transferred to UBC

Alam is still in contact with another practicing dietitian who may come

Strength and Conditioning: John

 

Group decided career booklet will be based off sprinter poster used at kin fair.

 

We will look into printing another large canvas banner for Careers in BPK, to be used now and in the future.

 

Motions:

Megan motions to apply for a grant of up to $975 from SSFS for the careers in BPK event.

Jordan seconded; motion unanimously approved.

 

Omid motions to contribute up to $150 from BPKSA core funds to support careers in BPK event.

Alam seconded; motion unanimously approved.

The meeting of the BPKSA was adjourned by Megan at 12:20pm in the BPK Graduate Student Lounge.  The next meeting will be held next semester!
