Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, July 20, 2016
Opening:
The meeting of the BPKSA was called to order at 1:30pm by Garveen in the BPK Seminar Room.
In Attendance:
Garveen, Joanne, Debbie, Alam, Erina, Elaine, Caleb, Emily, Megan, Matt, Kirstin, Lisa
Open Issues:
1) BPK Kickoff
-Lisa will talk to the department to see what they will be willing to fund for the swag bags
-lanyards will cost around $200, we would likely have to pay for them
2) BPK 101
-Friday September 9th from 2:15-4:30pm
-both Brent and Diana have agreed to come speak at the event and we will keep it to just the two of them for the event
-Diana will be able to provide tips on how to be successful in first year courses and can speak about doing her Master’s at SFU
-Brent will be able to provide ideas on how to get involved early on in your degree and can speak about doing his undergrad and Master’s here
-each of them can speak for few minutes and then we will open up the floor to questions
-Joanne will email the two of them to coordinate
-scavenger hunt/Amazing Race type of activity will be included in the Icebreaker portion, will create clues that help get them more familiar with the BPK area and other parts of campus; Debbie, Kirstin & Garveen will start brainstorming
-Erina had spoken to Brenda a bit about the Career Development Workshop but will connect with her again to see the style of workshops she has held in the past
-for the refreshments we can pick up snacks (fruit platter, pizza, granola bars) from Costco
-Schedule:
2:15-2:30 pm: Registration (BPK Seminar Room?)
2:30-2:35 pm: Migrate for icebreakers (maybe book a gym/field or use field near TASC?)
2:35-3:25 pm: Icebreaker + BPK Scavenger Hunt
3:25-3:30 pm: Migrate for Career Development Workshop
3:30-4:00 pm: Career Development Workshop (will need to book a room for this)
4:00-4:05 pm: Migrate for Speaker Series (BPK Seminar Room?)
4:05-4:30 pm: Info session + Refreshments
4:30 pm: Wrap-up + Swag Bags
3) Motions
Matt motioned to reimburse Emily $52.38 for the BPK Peer Mentorship Lunch. Debbie seconded it. The motion was unanimously approved.
4) Clothing
-will arrive tomorrow and we will hand it out the week of August 1st
-Garveen will email a Doodle pool, please sign up for shifts!
