Meeting Minutes
Thursday, November 5, 2015
Opening:
The meeting of the BPKSA was called to order at 11:30am by Loryn in the BPK Graduate Student Lounge.
In Attendance:
Loryn, Debbie, Matt, Shaila, Lois, Megan, Omid, Sabrina, Ashly, Daniela, Jake, Jordan, Lukas, Kirsten
Open Issues:
1) Career Event
-Sabrina showed us a draft of the program booklets and would like our feedback!
-she also needs a cover photo for the booklet (could maybe use the skeleton made out of words, she will also send us the stock photos we have purchased in the past)
-Loryn sent out a survey to the undergrads about what careers they would like to see: Med was one of the least popular options, Kin and Physio were the most popular and OT was the second most popular
-other suggestions were: respiratory therapist, ergonomist, claims adjuster at ICBC or Worksafe BC (Ashly has a contact for this), medical radiologist, entrepreneurship type careers in Kin
-Lukas is doing co-op with an SFU initiative called Innovations Boulevard (focuses on medical technology development and validation), there are lots of people doing research there including Dr. Sam Doesburg
-could combine Dr. Sam Doesburg with a representative from Innovations Boulevard, Lukas suggested that having them speak would be better than setting up a booth for them
-Erina knows an Ergonomist and a Kin, we will ask her to contact them
-Shaila knows a Respiratory Therapist and will contact them, will also email Dr. Sam Doesburg to confirm
-Jake will hopefully speak to his PT contact today
-decided for now to remove OT as a speaker and instead try to have a Respiratory Therapist and Ergonomist present, if we can’t get one or the other we will have an OT present instead
-for the 4 presentation slots we will have: Med, Physio, Research & Entrepreneurship, Respiratory Therapist & Ergonomist (or OT)
2) Social Event
-Loryn submitted the grant and is waiting to hear back from the SFSS
-Ashly confirmed with The Hive for Fri Nov 20th, we need a minimum of 10 people and need to let The Hive know the Monday before how many are coming
-Matt will make a Facebook event for Fri Nov 20th at 5:30pm at The Hive, regular price admission is $25 and we will provide a discounted admission for the first 20 people who show up
-Lukas will advertise the event at the BNSS meeting as well
3) Clothing
-clothing order has been submitted!
-Ashly found a skeleton design with words instead of bones and we could re-design it so the skeleton is in the shape of a Vitruvian man
-Lukas has a contact for t-shirt printing that the BNSS uses so he will share that with us for future clothing orders
-next semester we will likely order: metal water bottles, lanyards, dri-fit t-shirts, Vitruvian man zip-ups, toques
