Meeting Minutes
Monday October 15, 2014
Opening:
The meeting of the BPKSA was called to order by Loryn at 1:30 in TASC II 7540
In Attendance:
Loryn, Darleen, Sam, Kirsten, Shaila, Conrad, Debbie, Garveen, Matteo, Matt, Darleen
Open Issues:
àAGM for SFSS:
- Ross who is the consultation coordinator for Build SFU came to talk about the AGM for the SFSS
- meeting held to approve the loan for building the Student Union Building and the Stadium
à Need to keep the project going to get mortgage and need to reach quorum
àstarting construction in April; need to get students to approve loan and the change in by-laws which say the loan will be paid back
- next week @ 1:30 on Wednesday; first 300 students get a free 1 pound wings coupon for the pub + the other prizes
àWe will be attending the AGM meeting; will reschedule our meeting for Friday next week at the pub
- Build SFU webpage has all of the information if you are interested; Darleen posted a link for the meeting in the BPKSA facebook page
àKin Week
- BCAK has booked a webinar for their members and we are hosting it in the seminar room
- In 2 weeks; on the 28th of October from 11-12
- Darleen will send us the invitations & more details
àCareer Night Update
- Breakout Sessions have been decided and will consist of:
àPhysiotherapy, 3 Kinesiologists, Medicine, and Dentistry
àDarleen may give a talk along with the Kinesiologists on alternative careers in BPK
àFor the Kinesiologists, we may include former SFU alumni working for: Worksafe, Exercise Therapy, Fraser Health (more from Darleen on this next week)
- For the Career Fair, the following will have a table:
àDr. Sarah Chow (SFU alumni), Registered Massage Therapy, BCIT, Prosthetics, more Kinesiologists, Representatives from the BPK Graduate Program
àAlso include all of the exhibits from last year, which included: Naturopathy, Chiropractic, Kintec
àtell Darleen about anyone else we would want to invite
- Matt will work with Cheri to book either Saywell Hall/Applied Sciences building and with Sabrina on the booklet
àSpeaker Series
- Local seminars given by the BPK Research Panel and the graduate students who will come and talk about their research and how they got the positions they hold today
àtalk to Damon Poburko and Peter Ruben about this
- Could hold these seminars once a month
- Remember to talk to your respective professors/graduate students and get back to us next week on this
àSocial Event: Laser Tag
- Ashly will follow up next week about this since she hasn’t been able to get a hold of Planet Laser
àCraig’s Legacy Fund
- Starting a legacy fund for Craig which will include funding for either USRA/NSERC’s, or anywhere where you would like to work
- Basically the student receiving this award will be given the salary and they can decide where they want to work
- Darleen will be on the selection committee; need to come up with the selection criteria
àmin GPA recommended, community service, engagement,
àClothing
- Want to have the clothing ordered by January (before career night), therefore design deadline can be set on November 11 @ midnight
- Can sell clothing at the Career Night or advertise the clothing and collect orders that day

The meeting was adjourned by Loryn at 2:30 pm. The next meeting of the BPKSA will be on Friday October 24, 2014 at 1:30 pm at the pub. On Wednesday of next week at 1:30, we will be attending the SFSS AGM meeting.
