Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology Student Association
Thursday, October 29, 2015
The meeting of the BPKSA was called to order at 11:30am by Loryn in the BPK Graduate Student Lounge.
Loryn, Garveen, Sam, Erina, Shaila, Megan, Lois, Daniela, Omid, Jordan, Jazmine, Pavan, Jake, Kirsten, Sabrina, Matt, Debbie, Darleen, Adrian
-tomorrow is the last day to hand in your order forms and this is a strict deadline!
-we will be outside the BPK Main office from 11-2 to collect forms
-Shaila looked for a better picture of a Purkinje cell but the one we already have seems to be the best
-there is another picture of a Purkinje cell t-shirt we could use that has a cell body so it looks less like a tree
-another idea would be to have the dendrites of the Purkinje cell form “BPK” rather than each individual dendrite being made up of words (like our past designs have been)
-for the spring order these seem to be the most popular items from the survey: lanyards, water bottles, dri fits, zip up hoodies (will put the new BPK with the ECG logo on the front, keep the Vitruvian man on the back but get rid of the BPKSA line)
2) Careers in Kin
-Jake still hasn’t heard back from his Physio
-Loryn talked to Joyce and she doesn’t know her January schedule yet, but will try and make it
-will need a headshot and a bio from each speaker for the program booklet
-Darleen could ask Shauna who presented at our event a few years ago (Med), she will look out for OT students and OTs who are practicing, could ask Leanna (who presented as a Physio student last year) to reach out to other UBC PT students
-Erina could ask an OT that she knows and a Kin that she knows too
-Shaila can ask Dr. Sam Doesburg about presenting
-Garveen can ask Matt Lloyd (a PhD student who could be partnered to speak with Sam)
-Louise from Lifelabs would be a great Ergo speaker, could ask Anne-Kristina for someone she knows as well
-could send out a WebSurvey to the undergrads to see who they would like to present
-Loryn will email Lukas to see if there is any specific career that the BNS would like to see
-for exhibitors we should have: a Chiro, RMT, BCIT, Naturopath
-no longer applying for a grant (need to do so 2 weeks in advance and the event is next Wednesday) and they want us to use our travel grant instead (but we always give this to Kin Games)
-between 40 and 50 326 students are currently confirmed
4) Fall Social
-Ashly will talk to The Hive and confirm we are coming on Fri Nov 20th so they can ensure they have enough staff that night
-The Hive may have a policy which requires students who are under 19 to have their parent sign a waiver
-we will apply for a grant to help subsidize the cost for the first 20 people so that they only have to pay $10 (rather than $25)
-Garveen motioned to apply for a grant of up to $300 to subsidize the ticket cost for students attending our Fall Bouldering Event at The Hive. Debbie seconded the motioned. The motion was unanimously approved.
-Loryn will send an email to the undergrads with the details over the next few days
-we also need to create a Facebook group to start advertising as well
The meeting of the BPKSA was adjourned by Loryn at 12:15pm in the BPK Graduate Student Lounge. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 in the BPK Graduate Student Lounge.
